Saint-Patrick's Day is the official national holiday of Ireland and is celebrated internationally. It is named after Saint-Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. Born in the 5th century, he was a Christian missionary. The holiday is celebrated on March 17th. Originally, blue was the colour associated with Saint-Patrick's Day. Overtime, it got changed for green. The celebration is often a march with large banderols in the streets. Green ribbons and shamrocks are also worn in celebration of Saint-Patrick's Day. The city of Dublin has the biggest march in Ireland. Since 2006, the Saint-Patrick festival is five days long and is attended each year by more than 900,000 people. There are many festivities which include concerts, indoor theatre performances and fireworks.
