Marking scheme for development profile The report will be marked based on the following Assessment criteria What criteria will be used to assess my work on this module University Grade Descriptors are a benchmark point of reference they are contextualised using specific subject specialist criteria specific to a particular assessment University Grade Descriptors Students will be assessed via a development profile policy briefing paper In the development profile students will be expected to demonstrate their ability to research and critically evaluate the development process of a chosen country and apply relevant economic analysis and theories to explain a specific development issue Assessment 1 Development profile marking scheme Data presentation Data collection selection and professional presentation of relevant development country data 20 Data interpretation Critical interpretation of country development indicators 20 Page 7 Assessment 1 Country development profile Due in week 7 by Thursday March 7th 1300 hrs 50 The development profile is worth 50 of the overall module mark The marking scheme is given below You should be able to analyse present and interpret the data that you use show evidence of research and critical analysis of any concepts you apply 2000 words long Your development profile on a country of your choice gives a snap shot of where that country is in terms of its economic and social development you will use latest available data for between 5 and 10 years ago Since the profile is short you will need to have a short introduction and short conclusion and you will not need an executive summary You are permitted to go 10 over the word count It is not recommended to write fewer than 2000 words Your development profile should be written in report style and must have the following sections Income level Poverty inequality The structure of the economy Economic performance Failure to include any of these sections will lead to a reduction in marks On top of this your report will also have Introduction Conclusion References Research Quality timeliness and coherence of research Use of data as evidence to support ideas Referencing 20 Critical analysis Economic analysis of data indicators and country experience 20 Application of concepts and theories Application of concepts and analysis from the module and application of development theories 20 Country Choice 1 You will need to download and fill out the country choice form on blackboard and submit your ranked country choices from 0800 Tuesday January 30th Wednesday January 31st 2359 2024 If you fail to do this a country will be allocated to you after all other students have been given their choice Also do not attempt to submit your choice before the submission time 0800 Tuesday January 30th 2024 2 The country you choose for assessment 1 will also be the country you write a policy briefing paper on in assessment 2
