transmembrana semelhante aos receptores acoplados à proteína G Esta proteína é expressa por células T e macrófagos e é conhecida por ser um importante coreceptor para vírus com tropismo para macrófagos incluindo HIV para entrar nas células hospedeiras Alelos defeituosos desse gene têm sido associados à resistência à infecção pelo HIV Os ligantes deste receptor incluem proteína quimioatraente de monócitos 2 MCP2 proteína 1 alfa inflamatória de macrófagos MIP1 alfa proteína 1 beta inflamatória de macrófagos MIP1 beta e regulada na ativação da proteína T normal expressa e secretada RANTES A expressão desse gene também foi detectada em uma linha celular promieloblástica sugerindo que essa proteína pode desempenhar um papel na proliferação e diferenciação de linhagens de granulócitos Este gene está localizado na região do agrupamento de genes do receptor de quimiocinas Um polimorfismo alélico neste gene resulta em alelos funcionais e não funcionais o genoma de secretada RANTES A expressão desse gene também foi detectada em uma linha celular promieloblástica sugerindo que essa proteína pode desempenhar um papel na proliferação e diferenciação de linhagens de
