Esta é a teoria por detrás dos radares. • O efeito Doppler da Luz é de notável importância em cosmologia. Georges Lamaitre e Edwin Hubble usando dados de efeito Doppler de Luz demostraram que objetos distantes apresentam desvios para o vermelho (redshift) crescentes com a distância não importa que direção do universo se olhe. De acordo com eles este fato indica que estes objetos estão todos se afastando da Terra, já que “desvio para o vermelho” é apenas uma forma de dizer que as frequências da luz observadas são mais baixas do que as esperadas, o que é compatível com a possibilidade do universo como um todo está expandindo e portanto deve ter iniciado a partir de um evento onde toda a massa estaria concentrada num ponto inicial.
